Sir Alexander Matthew Busby

Sir Alexander Matthew Busby said Matt Busby, born May 26, 1909 at Bellshill and died on January 20, 1994, was a football player and coach of Scottish football.
He led for twenty years the club Manchester United.

Born in Bellshill in Scotland, raised in the Catholic tradition, his father and uncle were killed during the First World War.
He made his debut for Manchester City footballer in 1928, with whom he won the Cup in England in 1934.
In 1936, he signed for Liverpool FC for £ 8 000.
He rode his first match in its new colours on March 14 against Huddersfield Town FC (they lost 1-0) and quickly became indisputable holder in the 1930s.
He concludes his career as a footballer when World War II began in 1940, despite some appearances in various clubs but only at leaves, since it is engaged in the regiment of Liverpool.

Once the war ended, he received a proposal from Manchester United while Liverpool wanted to keep it in its staff.
Busby joined MU and therefore occupies the post of manager in 1945.
Since its first season, it allows the club vice-champion finish behind his former club Liverpool.
After several successful seasons (vice-champion in 1947, 1948, 1949 and 1951), Manchester United finally managed to win the championship in England in 1952.
During this period the team took the nickname Busby Babes because of young players that make up the numbers as Bobby Charlton and Duncan Edwards. The club won the championship again in 1956 and 1957.
But on February 6, 1958 occurs Munich air crash in which eight players died, others were seriously wounded, Busby was also wounded and twice he read the anointing of the sick.
During the summer of 1958 he took over in Scotland for the World Cup in Sweden in 1958 and continues this adventure a few months after giving the first selection Denis Law before resigning in December of that year.
Meanwhile, he continues his adventure in Manchester United, during the years 1960, he rebuilt the team relying on Bobby Charlton, Denis Law and George Best. In 1968, MU became the first English club to win the cup in Europe clubs champions. In 1969, he retired from his position as manager but returned in 1970 for a season before becoming the technical director until 1982 and then president.

He received the Order of the British Empire in 1968 after his victory. He died in January 1994 at the age of 84 from cancer.
